Her fetters* burst, and just releas'd from prison, A virgin phoenix from her ashes risen. - Lord Byron
The Town of Windsor, with a history akin to the mythical phoenix, gathers strength and character from triumph over adversity. Windsor lay in ashes after two great fires: October 17, 1897, and January 6, 1924. Despite the tragedies, the town rebuilt, each time stronger than its past self. July 14, 2015, a devastating fire rips through the Spitfire Arms, leaving only the echoes of friendly laughter and good cheer: a cherished watering hole no more than a memory in a town too familiar with flame. As did Byron's phoenix, the Spitfire flexed from its smoky irons, rising again with youthful intensity ushered by deliberate composure. The Spitfire would fly again, March 12, 2016.Here, where family and community run deep, traditions are as rich and warm as the Steak and Guinness Pie.
